Creating positive changes across Australia
Choice develops practical programs that enrich the lives of the people that participate on them, whilst building strength within the communities we serve.
- Programs are developed to work with children from disadvantaged backgrounds and who are receptive to anti-social behaviours, crime and criminal activity
- We tailor programs to work with early school leavers and young people disengaged from mainstream education with emphasis on re-engaging in education of pursuing training and employment
- We develop programs that support prime age people, parents and carers, people with physical and hidden disabilities and mature age citizens to achieve goals in education, learning, training, employment, health and wellbeing
- We develop strategies to engage unemployed, long term unemployed and under employed people and support them to re-enter the employment marketplace
The programs are designed to increase self esteem, confidence, respect for self/others and overall life skills. Through strategies proven successful since 1997, we encourage the concept of healthy choice making, positive thinking and responsible behaviour, as such increasing the enjoyment from life for the individual.
We create user friendly, non threatening learning environments that encourage and support individuals to step beyond their comfort zones and strive to achieve their goals and dreams. Historically this includes positive progression in health, education, learning, training, employment, sport, recreation, adventure, travel, relationships, spiritual, physical and mental well being.
Choice was borne out of an idea by founding director T.A. Hartley in Cairns in August 1997. Today, senior management of Choice recognise the investment made since 1997 has built a valuable, beneficial and note worthy reputation for Choice as a leader of innovative, practical and realistic strategies that build health, skill, vibrancy and positivity amongst the people we serve.
On the basis of positive and negative experiences and years of work in a variety of youth programs and educational facilities, key founders envisioned initiatives whereby people would share ownership of programs or projects, therefore strengthening respect for self and others, raising self esteem, increasing confidence, improving life skills, and creating educational, training and employment opportunities for themselves. The outcome would be community recognition of participants as positive contributors to their communities.
Since inception in 1997, various strategies have been trialled to increase the exposure of Choice , our aims and objectives. Most notable has been our long standing relationship with Cairns based media outlets, Southern Cross Ten, Hot FM, Sea FM and Zinc FM. We have also found the promotion of high quality TV commercials using the animated Choice character and radio ads that encourage healthy choice making, positive thinking and responsible behaviour and our unwavering ability to deliver quality driven, practical, programs and projects has helped us achieve our goals.
A key priority upon inception was for the Choice concept and culture to relate well to the word Choice, therefore, since inception we have made it procedure to avail the people we work with, the greatest possible opportunity to overcome some of their barriers and hurdles. As such, networking and collaborating with existing service providers, organisations, agencies, departments and the like, is common practice at Choice.
